Authorities reported they were contacted by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.

Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for information.

An important official commented the incident made him speechless and required to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
